The Canadian sport horse was bred shortly after World War I. The major portion of the horses in Canada during War were shipped to Europe for the war efforts. Those horses never returned back to Canada. This severally limited and thinned the breeding stock. After the war, stallions from England were made available for the country side stock of Canada. This help to produce a better and more refined animal. The thin numbers to start off with resulted in this bred not being recognized and named a breed until 1970.
