The simple answer to this question is that a V6 is an engine that has six cylinders, there are two types, Inline 6 and V6. Inline 6 means that there are 6 cylinders in a row and a V6 means that the cylinders are in a V formation 3 on each side of the block. On the Ford Bronco II or the early Ford Rangers you would have what is refered to as a "Cologne" 2.9L V6. this is a 60° cast iron block V6 engine built by the Ford Motor Company in Cologne, Germany (thats where it gets its name from). The output was rated at 140 horsepower @4600 rpm for the Light trucks (1986-92 Ranger & 1986-90 Bronco II)
