A balanced diet is a diet which contains the quality and proportions of nutrients needed to maintain good health and to sustain life. A balanced diet is variety. A balanced diet helps you stay healthy, especially when coupled with exercise.

A balanced diet refers to a diet that does not have too much of just one thing. For instance, if you too many refined processed carbohydrates or too much of one thing like rice, pasta, potatoes, bread, and corn, then that is NOT a balanced diet because it has too many sugars/starches/carbohydrates and not enough protein, fiber, or fat.

Whereas an only adequate diet contains all nutrients necessary for long-term survival but it may not necessarily be good for optimum health or have any variety.
