The first two branches of Christanity to break off from Catholicism were the Lutherans and Anglicans (Episcopalians) Some other protestant churches are the Baptists, Presbyterians, United Methodists, and the United Church of Christ.

AnswerActually, before even that the Great Schism saw the Church split into two centuries before the Reformation. The two fractions were the catholic Church based at Rome under the jurisdiction of the pope, and the Orthodox Church based at Constantinople (now Istanbul)

No religion "branched" out of Catholicism. Catholicism is the Mystical Body of Christ (see Acts 9:1-5; 1 Cor 12:12-14) and Our Blessed Lord only has one Body. There have been numerous religions which have left the Catholic Church to form their own religions, below is a partial list of the more noteworthy; the Orthodox Churches are a special case, they are technically in schism.

The Circumcisers (1st century)

Arianism (4th century)

Pelagianism (5th century)

Semi-Pelagianism (5th century)

Nestorianism (5th century)

Monophysitism (5th century)

Iconoclasm (7th and 8th centuries)

Catharism (11th century)

Protestantism (16th century)

Jansenism (17th century)
