I did some preliminary research which included the website of a NYC law firm (SEE LINK BELOW) which discusses various type of debt notes - including COGNOVIT NOTES. This site gives no caveat as to their legality (or lack thereof) in NY, therefore I draw the conclusion that cognovit notes quite likely ARE legal in NY State.
