Indentured servants were people who worked for a limited time, usually 4 or 5 years, provided with food and shelter by their masters, and were then on their own. They were supposed to be provided with supplies when done working but most weren't.

Slaves were forced to work their entire lives, and while one could choose to be an indentured servant in order to obtain passage to America, slaves were forced against their will to serve.

What were the difference between servants and slaves?

They were not the same. Indentured servants were to serve 7 years, but often they left before they finished their time. They could blend in so it made it hard to find them, but any person who was black was a slave and needed a pass to leave the plantation. Indentured servants were paid and free after 7 years. Slaves were never paid and were considered property.
