What is a good female book character you can dress up as for an 11 year old?

You could go as Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. Your hair would need to be long enough to braid in a single braid though, and having darker hair would be better also, but not having dark hair would be fine. Besides that you could wear black pants, a black t-shirt, and some black boots. Or lightweight green clothing and black sneakers( if you wanted to be her while she's in the Hunger Games). The rest of the costume is the harder part. For the golden pin, you'll have to see if maybe a mom or grandmother has a pin that might work, or create one yourself (or if you bought one a while back when they had replicas at Borders). Finally, the bow and arrows, which is going to be the most important prop. Unless you're willing to buy a kiddie one, you'll have to make one. I'm leaving two links at the bottom that will tell you how to make a costume bow and arrow (both are pretty easy). On the robin hood one just ignore all steps except 4 and 5. The only thing is that if you're wearing this costume to school you might not be able to bring the fake bow and arrows (the school might consider them weapons). So it would be best to call the school first, to see if you are able to wear the bow and arrow with it. If you pull this costume off I'm sure you'll get tons of compliments and you could even wear this for Halloween.

Other options: Hermione from Harry Potter, but other kids will probably be her also, and you'd probably have to buy a gray school uniform outfit.

Dorthy from wizard of oz, although again other girls will probably be her.

The only other girl character that I thought might be fun to dress up as is Maggie Dempsey from How NOT to be Popular by Jennifer Ziegler. The girl dresses up in ridiculous outfits so that no one would want to be friends with her (although it doesn't work out that way). She gets all of her outfits from a thrift store, some of the outfits include:

• A flowery dress with huge poofed up sleeves and a ginormous bow in back.

• Big goofy genie pants and a "high collared silk shirt" and carrying a rosemary plant.
• A car mechanic zipper jumpsuit, a green frog umbrella, a Star Trek backpack, and galoshes.
• A kimono
• "pink satin shorts with a matching satin jacket, white tee with a unicorn design, white headband, a tube socks up to the knee"
• Hairy wool skirt with a hairy wool jacket, lemon lime color, rhinestone glasses and nurse shoes

• A checkered apron dress

You get the picture, just choose something really wacky if you want to be her.

Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series is a great choice for an 11-year-old to dress up as. She is smart, courageous, and a positive role model for young girls. Plus, her iconic Hogwarts uniform and bushy hair make for a fun and recognizable costume.
