If you decide to do this and want to do it a few days before the housewarming put the basket and it's contents in a cool area or even the fridge. Other gifts could be nice candles or candle holders; modern place mats (bought at Pier 1 is your best bet) with napkins and napkin rings. Gift certificates are always welcome.
