I would say that the best dog for anybody with kids is a keeshond.

I have one, and his name is Noah. The keeshond is a very fluffy dog, but surprisingly, they only need about 6 baths a year. They also NEVER get that "dog smell". Occasinally (during shedding season) you will find little "tumbleweeds" as we like to call them, all around your house. They are beautiful, look them up on Google with your 12 year old if you'd like.

You don't want a large breed of dog because they can be hard to handle and are followed by many health risks.

Look for something small, not too energetic ... It'd be the perfect companion for a 14 year old girl.

Personally, I would suggest a Boston terrier. I had one when I was 13, and he was friendly, easy to handle, train, and was very cuddly ! :)

it depends on what type of person you are, if you are enegetic and have lots of time free a bigger dog will just want a companion to live with and to walk him quite regularly and very often for quite long walks as well. if you want something that you could cuddle/stroke it for all its worth, also if you might not want to walk around whatever the weather three times a day like i now do then have a smaller dog. a lot of the rest depends on the breed as some breeds of dog don't play games and things as i know best because i just bought a load of toys and stuff for my dog and turns out he isn't one for playing games! lol! :D so yeah search diffrent Dog Breeds and you'll find just the type you're looking for :P good luck! :D

I would say a bird a medium size bird can be a great way to have the opurtunity to learn about bird and birds live a long life so it can make a forever friend.
