sqeaking/creaking noises front the front of the car will most likely come from the control arm bushings or sway bar bushings. Bushings are pieces of rubber (or polyurethane if you have a performance vehicle) that fit between the metal parts of the car (similar to a function of a rubber washer). When the rubber gets old and breaks down it tends to sqeak/creak. These noises can be louder with temperature and humidity changes in the weather.

You re-engage the starter and you can damage the bendix, or the gear on the starter drive for the engine. It makes a grinding sound and will ruin the starter.
