Call your phone service provider and purchase long distance service for the phone that your fax is hooked up to. In my case, I had long distance service for my "house phone" but no long distance on my "internet phone" so I couldn't fax long distance.

A long-distance access code is a code required to make a long-distance telephone call. For example, in many countries, you must dial the long-distance access code '0' or '1' before a domestic area code. (In many countries that use '0' as the prefix, it is often quoted as if it were part of the area code; for example, 020 for London, UK.) Some countries also allow you to dial an access code to use a competing telephone company for that particular call. For instance, in the United States, you can dial 1+area+number to place a long-distance call with your default carrier, or you can add a prefix to use some other carrier by dialing 101xxxx+1+area+number.

It is the code you need to access long distance.

In the United States, you can dial a 7-digit prefix to select a particular long-distance carrier for that call. For example, AT&T's code is 1010288 (often quoted as "ten-ten-A-T-T" because 288 spells ATT). Other codes are in the range 1010000 to 1019999.

Other countries may have similar arrangements for access to competing carriers, sometimes with codes as short as one digit. For example, in France, if you dial 7 instead of 0 as the first digit of a national or international number (i.e., 71 instead of 01 for Paris, or 7044 instead of 0044 for the UK), your call will be carried by Cegetel instead of by your default carrier.

On a private telephone system (such as a company or college campus), you may need to dial an accounting code to be allowed to place a billable call. The specifics depend on the particular organization.

Why do you need a long distance company access code when you are dialing the same area code as mine?

In addition to being divided into area codes, the United States is also divided into areas called LATAs, which do not correspond to area code boundaries. After the breakup of the Bell System, a toll call within the same LATA was handled by your local carrier, but a toll call to a different LATA had to be handed off to your long-distance carrier. If you are trying to call a number in the same area code and get a recording that you need a long-distance company access code, most likely you are trying to call a number that is in a different LATA.

If you are calling a different area code, yes, of course - otherwise how will the system know you are trying to call a number in that area rather than your own?

What is the long distance access code to call area code 910 from area code 828?

Area code 910 serves Wilmington and Fayetteville, North Carolina; area code 828 serves Asheville, N.C. To call from area code 828 to area code 910, just dial 1-910 and the 7-digit local number. To choose a long distance company other than your default for this call only, dial 101xxxx-1-910-xxx-xxxx, where 101xxxx is the access code for the long distance company you want to use. However, be careful, as you may be charged much higher "casual caller" rates if you do not have an account with the long distance company you choose.

What number do you use for an carrier access code?

In the United States, a carrier access code is a 7-digit prefix in the range of 1010000 through 1019999 that allows you to select a long-distance carrier different from your default selection for a particular call. You dial the carrier access code immediately before 1 + area code + number or 011 + country code + city code + number.

Can Ireland dial out to 0808?

If you are trying to call a UK 0808 number, you may be able to dial it as 00 44 808, but you will likely still pay the international call charges for a call to the UK. If you are trying to call an international shared-cost number on country code +808, dial 00 808. The cost should be comparable to a domestic long-distance call.
