This is a recoil pad for the butt of a gun.Sold primarily in 1936 37 38 by the Red Head Brand in Chicago IL.
I have a Ranger Over and Under 12 gauge shotgun with a recoli pad with the same Chicago patent No. 105358. Are there markings you speak of on the recoil pad or on the gun itself?
Brand names are protected by trademark law, not patent law.
Crescent was in business from 1892 to 1930. If it is a hammerless gun, it was not made before 1903. Value would be from $150-$250 and the Redhead recoil pad is an addon but it's not going to deduct anything from the value like it would on a high-end collectable.
A brand used on goods or services is a trademark or service mark, not a patent.
