This sounds like a Civil War token. Without more detail you can't know who issued it, but it may have been a private business. This was frequent during the war because of a shortage of coins. You have a Patriotic Civil War Token. There are hundreds of different designs of these, privately made during the Civil War times. As long as it's not damaged, corroded, or excessively worn, it will be worth $10.00 or more -- some designs are worth alot more.
