If it is an emergency, and you go to the emergency room, yes. They will do what it takes to alleviate the emergency with instructions on how to keep yourself out of the emergency situation. (Generally, a follow-up visit with your doctor.) If you require medications and don't have the money for them there are options but it will require you to seek assistance. Tell any practitioner who prescribes you any medications you can't afford that you can't afford them and ask what you can do. They will be able to help point you in the right direction as far as who to go to for help in this matter. You won't be able to call the ER and have the doc call in a refill, though. They have a limited ability to do anything long term because they are there for emergencies. Once they fix the emergency then it becomes something for a general practitioner to monitor and treat. Otherwise, the ER risks being sued for acting like they are a general practitioner.
