An Imageboard is a web site which focuses on posting images and discussing them. Imageboards are often divided into several different categories for different topics, such as /v/ for Video Games, /a/ for Anime/Manga and /mu/ for Music.

A user can start a topic by posting an image, along with a comment. Other users can reply to a topic with their own images and also participate in discussion.

Some popular Imageboards include:

  • Futaba (2ch) - a Japanese image sharing site founded in the late 90s
  • 4chan - an English community based on the Futaba software. Known for it's notorious /b/ board, it attracts over 100,000 posts per day worldwide
  • Ponychan - a site for fans of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
  • 420chan - oriented towards drug users
  • iichan - geared mostly towards Japanese culture

Where did firin mah lazor originate?

"IMMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER" meme originating from 4chan's /b/ imageboard. The original picture is an image of Imperfect Cell level 2 from the anime Dragon Ball Z, with his face blacked out, giant open mouth and red lips, and cockeyed... erm, eyes done poorly in MSPAINT with the caption "IMMA CHARGIN MAH LAZER", "IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZER" or "SHOOP DA WHOOP". This version of the character is known as Nigra Cell. Other images under this meme involve the blacking out of the face and addition of Nigra Cell's mouth and eyes, with a much greater potential variety of captions. Picture modified in this way are often referred to as having been "shooped." This is a play on the phrase "shopped," which refers to using the program Photoshop to edit a picture.
