The Maya Indians live in small one room houses in the jungles of Central America. These houses are made of sticks and have a dirt floor. They keep a smoky fire burning all the time. Their villages do not have any mosquitoes or any other types of insects. The Maya Indians, however, have a lot of lung disease from all the smoke.

The federal government of The United States of America wants to replace the open fires with far more efficient stoves. They would be far better devices for cooking. They would also help clear up lung disease. However, they would also allow mosquitoes and malaria to come to the villages. They would enable the insects that carry tropical disease to live in the village. People living in a world free from insect borne pathogens would lose that world.

A better example would be when a house burned down a block away. I smelled the smoke and got an asthma attack.
