Chlorine is not compatible with baquacil. Nor is the saline (salt) system. For info on how to convert off baquacil e-mail me and I will reply with instructions.
Why would water be cloudy?
Cloudy water can be caused for a number of reasons: poor filtration, imbalance of chemicals in your pool such as total alkalinity, pH, calcuim hardness and chlorine, imbalance of total chlorine and free chlorine (referred to as chlorine demand), etc.It could also be that your have a lot of micro particles that your filter cant catch. You might want to try a chlorifier that makes the tiny particles clump together and easy to remove with a vacuum.This condition occurred with me twice last year. The diagnosis for me was "mold". I was using Bacquacil, and the dealer told me to test for mold by pouring 1 gallon of bacquashock directly into the skimmer. If the return subsequently starts blowing white instead of clear water, it's mold. The only recourse was to superclorinate, which of course made a big mess, then vacuum and restart with bacquacil again after pool cleared up.The water is cloudy due to poor water chemistry. Most likely a pH problem. Take water into a pool store. Sometimes cloudiness is also due to using a calcium based shock. Such as the brand sock-itDouble shock your pool with liquid chlorine (12.5%). A double shock is 2L of chlorine for every 10000L of water in your pool. The cloudiness is likely the start of algae. You may also find a clarifier helpful after double shocking to help eliminate the particles that will settle to the bottom of the pool.Make sure all of your levels are balanced. then if there is no improvement add a clarifier ONLY if you are using a sand or cartridge filter. it will clog a filter.First make sure ALL your levels are good depending on the filter type that is used perform a backwash vacuum. if using a sand filter try some DE in small doses for it will clog the filter let it run through the filters watch your pressures when they get to the point you normally backwash than do so.Have a complete water analysis to find the cause for cloudy water.I disagree with all the above answers: There are only two main causes for a white cloudy pool #1 is lack of Sanitizer. #2 is lack of filtration due to a poor filter or a clogged pump. I would start with #2 turn your system off make sure there are no blockages in your pump basket,skimmer & main drain.Make sure your filter is properly cleaned.Then #1 check your sanitizer level make sure it is in a safe operating range. Your pool water should be turned over every 6-8 hours.Cloudy pool water is usually the result of one or more of the following: filter/ filtration problems, high calcium hardness level, high conditioner level, high pH, low pH, high total alkalinity, high level of total dissolved solids, low chlorine level, algae, large volume of microscopic particles in the pool water.

What chemicals can help fix chlorine oxidizing iron from well water?
Hi, I'm having the exact same problem. In fact, mine got so bad that we had to drain the pool. Anyhow, still waiting for an answer to your question for my own use, but i can tell you what will NOT work!! (beware! they were recommended from people on the net) A clarifying treatment (usually a blue bottle) Will NOT WORK... (maybe even make it worse) A mineral treatment (usually green bottle) which helps control the minerals may work, but only temporarily, until the second you add any water, which is the point that my water reacted the worst ever, and was no longer even see through. and of course we know chlorine doesn't work...Be careful! Its bad having to drain your water and start all over again...like ME! I live in S.W. Virginia and I have really bad iron-water. The only thing I've found that works is called Ferritab, made by Swimfree. Make sure that if you have the cartridge type filter, you don't use the Ferritab DE--as this will not improve your situation. Sorry, kids, but the whole point of chlorine is that it is an "oxidizer". This means that it helps in the creation of "free oxygen", which will combine with virtually anything (Oxygen atoms usually travel in pairs as an O2 molecule which is fairly non-reactive. When split up into individual oxygen atoms, or free oxygen, it will react violently with just about anything). Free oxygen literally rips the bacteria and algae apart, killing it. You may want to try a different purifying chemical. Bacquacil kills bacteria by turning the cell walls of single-celled bacteria into a gluey substance which then clumps up into lumps and sticks to the pool filter. This gluey mess then traps all the other contaminants in the water. The up-side is that there is no need for chlorine. The downside is that you have to clean your filter fairly often to get the gunk out.
Why would a Hayward Earth Filter's gauge keep going on 25 even after you backwash and the water is clean?
Have you cleaned the grids/fingers lately? They, the things that get coated with DE, need to be taken out and cleaned once a year. If you haven't, they likely have a coating on them, in addition to what you coated them with, causing the high pressure. You have to take them out and wash them. Different methods are hosing them and soaking in dishwashing liquid; putting them in automatic dishwasher a couple times (no heat dry!); soaking in muratic acid. I had the exact same problem with my filter. I use bacquacil Ultra and I would backwash the filter and a few hours later the pressure returned to the high level that it was prior to backwashing it. After taking my filter apart, I discovered a pink color on the filter grid. Through research I learned that the pink color was caused by "pink slime" and water mold which were clogging the filter. My water was very clear and I was unaware that I had these issues until I took the filter apart and learned that I had to treat the water with a chemical to remove the "pink slime" and water mold.. My hayward DE 4800 Filter has always read between 24 and 28PSI. The grids are clean in and out. I have been told it really depends on the plumbing. I have an oil fired heater as well as many elbows and 5 returns. I also run a 1 1/2 HP pump with it. I have been told to downsize the impeller to decrease the pressure and I have been told to leave it alone and it is fine. The pressure guage that comes with the filter is a cheap one and not the most accurate. Anyway, this is the way it has been since I got the pool with the house 8 years ago. Every filter has a different pressure due to the size of pipe,pump and distance to run. D.e. filters after backwashing need to have D.E. added back to them.Maybe your guage is broke does it go to 0 when your pump is off. Spiders can also get into the mech. and stop its proper function. As in the above Hayward DE 4800 Filter -- if you have a spa attached to the system remain with the pump you have. If not you may be able to replace the impeller with a .75 hp with the same motor. The extra cost is in the labor, new impeller, seal, gasket. It would be even more beneficial if you only had 1.5" plumbing. The motor would last longer -- less strain on motor. The pressure may not change drastically especially if you have 1.5" pipes. And as an added bonus, the filter might even run better. Less force thru the grids. You might even have more suction at the vac head believe it or not it is a fact. k
What is the best filter for an inground pool?
I work for a pool company and have found that a sand filter is the most common. An earth filter provides the best filtration but can be more time consuming and can cause a problem when using a bacquacil pool. (ie, frequent clogging). There is also cartridge filters but i find those to be less efficient compared to the sand and earth. hope this helped! I would suggest that each type of filter has its own advantages and disadvantages; Sand: Affordable, dependable, easy to maintain, but not the highest level of filtration and cleaning (backflushing) wastes water and can be a mess. Most common for both above and in-ground pools. Cartridge: Better filtration than sand, very easy to maintain and clean, but more expensive. Good for above ground pools. DE: Great filtration, but more expensive and more difficult to clean than sand or cartridge. Great for in-ground pools. ...
