What are treatments for ADHD?

There are treatments for ADHD. Some are coping strategies, others are medications. Depending on the age of the person, it can be handled in many ways. The first step: talk to your family doctor. I was fortunate enough to have a doctor who didn't dismiss it, especially when I asked for a second opinion. Get a professional to conduct the testing. I had a psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD. I was diagnosed at the age of 34. My brother has ADHD, Autism, Tourette's Syndrome and Epilepsy. My father has mild Tourette's Syndrome and after having met enough people with either ADHD and ADD, I had an idea of the symptoms. I am now taking Adderall XR. My brother was on dexidrine as a child which seemed to work well for him, which is one of the main reasons I went with this one due to similar genetic makeup. He did not respond well to Ritolin which made me exclude things like Biphentin. I am in my final year of full time University and have never done better in my adult academic life. The most important thing is educating yourself and support. Depending on where you live, there should be a number of websites dedicated to the topic. I'm still researching otherwise I would recommend a few.

Can you give your child Claritin if he is taking biphentin and citalopram?

The answer to this question is dependant entirely upon her weight and age. Those medicines are not to be given to children under 2 years old, as recent medical studies have indicated the potential for serious unwanted side effects. Children older than 2 years old and up to 12 years old should only use over-the-counter cough and cold medications after seeking the advice of your doctor.ALWAYS talk to your pharmacist or pediatrician before giving your children medication or before taking medication yourself. Even medicine as simple as Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin (iburpofen) can have serious side effects if you take certain medications in the same day or have certain disease states. For dextromethporphan and benadryl, the following doses are recommended if your pediatrician agrees:Child 2-5 years old: 2.5mL (1/2 teaspoonful) by mouth every 12 hours for no more than 7 days.Child 6-11 years old: 5ml (1 teaspoonful) by mouth every 12 hours for no more than 7 days.If symptoms do not improve or become worse, seek treatment by a physician as soon as possible. If child has a fever, do not attempt to treat with over-the-counter products and call or seek out a physician immediately. These recommendations should not be substituted for the advice of your pediatrician, as your pediatrician knows your child better than the internet does.

Can you inject Adderall?

Yes, if you are insane, completely out of your mind and believe that injecting a prescribed pill into your bloodsteam is a good idea. Note that I called this insane.

Are their any legal amphetamines?

They aren't necessarily illegal. Many, in fact, are encouraged for individuals suffering from such conditions as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) or simply Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). These amphetamines will normally go under the name Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, Biphentin, etc. However, almost all of those comprise of the identically stimulating compound; based of the prescribed dosage of course. Although it is almost impossible to regulate, amphetamines become illegal when someone without the above conditions use the stimulant in order to 'tweak' (getting high on Amphetamines... normally Methamphetamine) or get, for example, homework done at lightning speeds... enjoying oneself in the process. In order to more effectively reach the desired high, these individuals will normally rail off lines (snort) rather than orally dropping the pill. Also, another reason that Amphetamines have gotten a bad name is because they are closely related to one of the most addictive and dangerous drugs in the world; Crystal Meth (Methamphetamine). In reality, the only difference between something like Adderall and Meth is that Meth is water soluble and so, it is more quickly absorbed/dissolved in the users body... this also makes it possible to deliver Meth intervenously. To further illustrate the similarity, Meth is even broken down into a simply Amph once its ingested. Although WikiAnswers probably prefers it if I don't include my own opinion on the matter, I find it necessary in these circumstances not to give Amphetamines a bad name. If they are taken for the right reasons by the right people (ie. those with ADHD), Amphetamines can be a life saver (and grade saver). Just take it from me... If it wasn't for these things, I wouldn't have been able to write this answer in three minutes.

Can citalopram be taken with adderall xr?

I have been on citalopram for about 14 years (since the age of 9) and recently was prescribed adderall in may 2011. (I say recent because it's the latest medication I've been put on, even though it's almost been a year). I was always concerned about the citalopram having been on it so long and such a large dose (80mg/day) and I have been told by multiple doctors and pharmacists that it is one of the longest used and safest SSRI's available compared to the others. I use it to treat anxiety and thrichotilomania (compulsive hair pulling). I read research on adderall helping relieve anxiety due to ADHD/ADD going untreated (I was diagnosed around the age of 5 with ADD) and never treated, which could in theory helped aid in the hair pulling to start along with severe anxiety ect. LONG story short, I have yet to find a doctor who is concerned about the two being mixed. One regulates a chemical imbalance while the other stimulates a particular area of the brain. Will your dosage need to be adjusted? That I don't know - I'm not a doctor, I just know what they tell me. I do know that since being on adderall I have not had to take my xanex or have not had panic attacks or large hair pulling bouts because of the stress that has been taken away from treating my adhd/add. 90% of my anxiety was from not being able to function well enough in college and pre college - focus on anything important - and was going through jobs like air. I was tested and in the top 1% of worse case ADHD in adults though - so it makes sense it's helping me so much. To say the least it's worth trying them together with doctors consent - if you are taking the citalopram for the similar reasons as I. I don't know if I will be able to stop taking it or lower the dosage some day, but treating the ADHD has improved the quality of my life 200% - sad I waited until I was 24, lol, but better late than never.
