Brown Shirts (Sturmabteilung (SA) were a wing of the Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers' Party) and later spawned the SS. They got their name from the brown shirts Hitler gave them to identify themselves as his henchmen. These shirts were excess from expected use in Africa. Their tactics included all forms and levels of violence and intimidation of political opponents as they pushed totalitarian socialist goals and crushed opposition. This included everything from "peaceful" activities to armed violence leading to injuries and death of their opponents.

In current times Antifa groups emulate Brown Shirts, using the same tactics of disruption, intimidation and violence, with the same goals of promoting totalitarian socialism (fascism) and crushing opposition. Antifa is protected and encouraged by the same type of politicians that protected and encouraged Brown Shirts, but prefer wearing black shirts to brown shirts to intimidate. They organize events like the Berkeley violence, and force cancellation of opposing political speeches and major political rallies and events because of threats of their trademark violence.
