Answer Time of Alexander the great I would start with researching the time of Alexander the Great. He was only in his 20's when he conquered the known world spreading Greek culture across it and changing the world forever. For example Julius Caesar idolized Alexander and his accomplishments. And when Julius Caesar conquered Egypt the queen at the time was a descendant of one of Alexander the Great Generals. This general took control of Egypt after Alexanders death and became Pharoh. This Greek descendant who was a Eqyptian Pharoh was Cleopatra. To me the time of Alexander was the greatest time for Greece. Others might say it was the Hellenistic period which pertains to Greek culture, art or history after Alexander. Good luck with your inquiry. Sincerely, Xena Well... Alexander wasn't Greek and the Greeks resented him when he claimed he was, they thought little of the Macedonians. I'd say the most glorious era for ancient Greece was July 480BC when Leonidas and his contigent of various greek forces showed the world glory can be obtained in death against an innumerable evil. They have been remembered as the greatest men ever to walk the earth! Almost there... The above is correct but a little vague. it wasn't just the battle at thermopylae (leonidas) that was glorious for Greece, but thewhole of the Persian war, (490 and 480-479) in which the Greeks defeated the Persians at Marathon, Salamis, Plataea and Mycal. although Themopylae was very heroic stand, the Spartans did ultimatly lost Not quite. First of all, Alexander was very Greek indeed, since Macedon was a greek kingdom and not a slavic one-Slavs came in the area about 9 centuries after Alexander. The most glorious era of ancient Greece is considered the'Golden Age of Pericles', which is the years after the Persian Wars (479 B.C) and before the Peloponnesian War (431-404 B.C). In this period of 50 years all the arts and sciences flourished in a way that would shape Western civilization as it is today. Ideas such as democracy and liberal freedom were put to the test and affected our modern way of thinking.

Well done "Not Quite"

Macedonia was and still is a state/region of northern Greece.

Do not make the mistake of labelling Alexander's ethnicity as Macedonian as that term refers to a region not an enthic background of an individual.

An example is the Spartans. We call them Spartans because of the region of Greece they were from, not because of their ethnicity. They were Greeks.

Alexander the Great never missed a chance to verify his pride for his Greek ancestry.

As a member of the Argead dynasty, Alexander claimed patrilineal descent from Heracles through Caranus of Macedon. From his mother's side and the Aeacids, he claimed descent from Neoptolemus, son of Achilles

He spread Greek culture to the known world through his conquests.

Alexander, Phillip and all his generals had Greek names. Why? Because they were Greek.

All archeological evidence points to these facts and more.

Reality Bites

Let's forget the warfare stuff - there is no real glory in was and slaughter and misery of vast numbers of innocent people. And empires and kingdoms don't mean glory either. The cultural environment is most appropriate, and for Greece this was it's Golden Age 500-300 BCE, when Greece opened up culture and science to the world.
