"Emotional maturity" means a level of understanding or event of somekind, through the eyes of a certain age or person.

For example: A person has died.

The emotional maturity level means, how well does a person affected by the death, cope and deal with the situation.

"They have an emotional maturity level of a child"

(They have a very basic understanding of death and acts very irrationally regardless of what other people do to educate them. Like a child would react.)

"They have an emotional maturity level of an adult"

(They react to the event as an adult would. This means quite a calm and thought-out and common response.)

people who grow up with tough stuff like learning problems, being teased and finding life hard as well as not being taught in school that emotions like crying and being angry are ok often will retreat into a pattern of 'losing' control. This can happen with a teenager who is experiencing a mental health crisis throwing themselves on the floor and refusing to get up. Teenagers are still young but I don't think it is normal for a fit on the floor from a 17 year old. Often people with Emotional problems attract negative attention and people will sometimes get very angry at these people who are not acting their age. The thing to remember is that these people are suffering inside(or some are). I don't think a person in their right mind would throw chidish crying fits in a mental health setting for no serious cause. Also, it is NOT always others fault for the emotional Imature persons troubles. Parents can only do their best and still their children will have problems.
