GM Ford and Dodge all use a numeric system to identify what their trucks and SUV's are rated at. A 1500 on a GM or Dodge vehicle means the vehicle is a 1/2 ton, or light duty vehicle. Ford uses F150. The older GM vehicles previous to 1988 used 10 or 15. The older Dodges used W150. The 2500 means it is a 3/4 ton. Ford uses F250. Again older GM vehicles used 20 or 25 and older Dodges used W250. A 3500 means the vehicle has a 1 ton rating. Ford uses F350 for these trucks. Older GM models used 30 and 35 and Dodge used W350. The actual differences between the trucks or SUV's is not noticeable from the outside for the most part, but a 2500 will have a heavier duty suspension and drivetrain, and either 8 ply or 10 ply tires, depending on how it was equipped at the factory. Dodge currently does not have a full-sized SUV in their lineup, and their smaller SUV is the Durango, and not identified as a 1500. Dodge previously built the Ram Charger and it was identified as a 150, but that vehicle was discontinued years ago. Ford only used the number system on their trucks and not on the SUV's so you won't find a Expedition or Excursion identified and a 150 or 250. GM is currently the only SUV manufacturer to use the number system on their SUV's.
