They are geographically different. As would be the mountains compared to the beach.

How are they alike? Meaning historically?

1. They both at one time were colonies of a European nation. USA the British; VN the French.

2. They both experienced a North & South war; however in the US, the American Civil War really was a "civil war"...ONE nation really was fighting itself! (Which is illegal by the way, which is why the US Civil War not a declared war, and why it's Confederate President Jefferson Davis was put into prison when the war ended). The Vietnam War was not a civil war...because the NORTH & the SOUTH Vietnams were actually TWO different nations! Two different countries can fight each other (they do it all the time); and it's not a civil war...just because the last names the same.

1. The US is on the North American continent; Vietnam is on the Asian continent. 2. The US is well over 50 times larger than Vietnam. 3. The US has never been occupied by another nation. Vietnam was occupied by Japan during WWII. (Note-being a colony of Britain for the US and France for Vietnam doesn't count as an occupation force).
