Ethical listening is the intentional practice of using information gained from people for their benefit, not that of yourself. For example, private information should never be shared publicly without consent.

The Pre-Socratic thinkers shifted from myth to reason by questioning traditional explanations based on divine stories and instead sought naturalistic explanations for the world using logic and observation. One of the central problems of argumentation is to project an impression to the reader that you are someone worth listening to, in other words making yourself as author into an authority on the subject of the paper, as well as someone who is likable and worthy of respect.
