∙ 12y agoThe area north ('above') of the equator is the Northern Hemisphere. The area south ('below') of the equator is called the Southern Hemisphere. A hemisphere means a shape of a sphere cut in half. Most of the world's population and landmass is in the Northern Hemisphere.
