Why do you have a white liver?

White Liver Disease:A specific hepatic dysfunction characterized by extensive hepatic lipidosis and seen only in cobalt deficient sheep. Clinically there is either photosensitization or anemia with emaciation. It is probably a toxic hepatopathy against which cobalt is protective.White Liver:A woman with insatiable sexual appetite, a Nymphomaniac.

Why would a cat not eat?

A cat should be eating but sometimes if the cat does not like the food put down for it, it will hold out for something better. A cat can starve for about 3 days after that you should take it to the vet, as it may have something else wrong with it.Cats are obligate carnivores meaning the main bulk of their diet must be animal products. Cats will die if put on a strict Vegan diet. Cats may occasionally eat other foods either for the novelty or to solve a physiological problem such as constipation or hair ball retention. If your cat has refused any and all foods for two days, take it to the vet immediately. A cat that loses too much of its weight too fast (from not eating) can develop a harmful and potentially fatal condition called Hepatic Lipidosis.

How long can cats live with out eating?

Cats can live for weeks without food; however, they can only live for several days without water, After 24 hours the cat is likely to develop hepatic lipidosis, which is very serious and often fatal. 2 days will forever damage his health if he hasn't gotten hepatic lipidosis, and will die sometime on the 3rd if without water. however if it has food they say about 2 weeks but it also depends on the cat:)

Why do some cats have a black nose?

There could be several reasons as to why your cat as black, or dark, drool. Worst-case scenario includes a serious liver disease called hepatic lipidosis. Best-case scenario is something is stuck in your cat's teeth, bleeding gums, bacterial infection, etc.If possible - without hurting the cat or yourself, that is - give your cat's mouth a rinse and see if there is any visable cause to the problem and take the cat to the vet ASAP.Do not rely on internet research to diagnose medical issues. Always seek professional advice before coming to a conclusion.

Can cats die from hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism itself is unlikely to be fatal to a cat. However, if left untreated there are health issues that could become fatal: The increased heart rate of a hyperthyroid cat can put great strain on the heart, and can cause Heart Failure. Liver damage can be caused by it having to work harder due to the increased metabolism, or increased fat deposits if the cat develops Hepatic Lipiosis (see below). The most common sign that a cat is hyperthyroid is significant weight loss, but an increased appetite. Even this cannot go unchecked as the cat could become emaciated, which puts a strain on the body and organs. Another worry is Hepatic Lipidosis, also known as Fatty Liver Disease. This is caused when a cat loses a significant amount of weight in a short period of time. Stored fat in the cat's body is moved to the liver. Unfortunately, a cat's body is not designed to process large amounts of fat, and this can cause the liver to become overwhelmed and is unable to process this fat as quickly as necessary, leading to a build up of fat in the liver, which interferes with normal liver function. All these secondary complications can be fatal if not treated quickly.

Your cat has obviously a dental infection and needs to see a veterinarian Unfortunately they are close for the weekends Is there anything you can do or give him to relief its pain until it sees a vet?

Answer:You need to take your cat to your Veterinarian or to the Emergency Veterinarian immediately. There is very little you can do at home as dental infections usually start below the gumline and not on the tooth itself. If you cannot get to a vet straight away your cat has trouble eating, try feeding wet food (you might have to mush it up) or other soft foods to entice it to eat. A cat that refuses to eat for more than a few days can develop Hepatic Lipidosis - a condition that can be fatal if a cat loses too much weight in a short time. Due to this it is highly advisable to see a vet before your cat starts to refuse food.Depending on how bad the infection is, they might sedate the cat, remove any teeth they cannot save and drain out any fluid. Antibiotics will most likely be given for you to give to the cat at home to ward off and kill any remaining bacteria.Answer:Your cat most likely has a very high temperature (normal is 101 - 102) and will act very lethargic. Abscesses are normally caused by cat bites and claws. They cause little puncture holes where oxygen cannot get to the wound and it closes up capturing all the infection inside of it. You must take your cat to your Veterinarian immediately. I doubt very much this is a dental problem, but only your Vet can diagnose your cat. There is nothing you can give the cat for pain and I would not try to feed him or her. Just get your pet into see your Veterinarian or an emergency Vet immediately.

What does or how much Bactrim DS do you give your Cat?

I want to preface my answer with the caveat that it is NEVER a good idea to give a cat any medication without consulting a veterinarian. While many "human" meds are also used in felines, many are NOT, and those that are need specifically calibrated dosages for the feline species. Your veterinarian will be able to calibrate the correct dosage for your cat. That said, yes, Bactrim is sometimes prescribed for cats. I have used it (under veterinary supervision) with my own cats. My vet uses a mail order pharmacy that specializes in compounding "human" meds for cats. The dosage is specific for the cat being treated. There are many "human" meds that also are prescribed to cats. Right now I have one FIV positive rescue being treated with Doxycycline, which is sometimes used in HIV positive humans. I have a rescue litter or kittens being given interferon as an immune system booster as they never received mother's milk (were orphaned at 1 day) and are missing a lot of the immune system safeguards that come from nursing queens. And finally I had a cat treated for hepatic lipidosis and she received daily meds of both ursodoil and SamE. It's funny because these are two meds my son currently takes to ward off veno-occlusive disease due to the chemo for his leukemia. The amoxicillian your vet may prescribe for your cat is the same antibiotic often prescribed for people (that pink syrupy stuff). So, human meds are often used for cats, but I cannot stress enough that your vet needs to calibrate the dosage. An error in dosage can result in death.

What if my kitten has breathing problems and wont eat?

Some cats are very finicky with food, and will sometimes turn their noses up at food they have had before and, at the time, seemed to have liked. Just like humans, even a non-fussy cat will get bored of the same food day after day for the rest of its life. Try giving the cat a different flavour, or mixing another food in with the old. Sometimes the new flavours and a different type of food will get the cat eating again, as its something to look forward to. Other methods to try is to add some plain chicken broth to the food (for dry food, never leave soaked kibble down for more than ten minutes as bacteria within the kibble will grow at an alarming rate), warming the food up a little, or mix some other tasty food such as a small amount of oily fish or chicken. Reduce these once the cat is eating again. Rotating a few brands every few weeks is ideal as this limits the chance of the cat getting bored with the food. Sometimes when cats are ill, or if they have something wrong with their mouth, they will not eat. Ill, hurting, or very fussy cats can refuse to eat for days at a time, which is a grave danger as this can lead to Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (Fatty Liver Disease), in which the cat's body will start to send fat cells to the liver for fuel, which given enough time untreated, the liver will fail. It is highly advisable to take the cat to the vet if the cat refuses to eat for more than several days, less than that if the cat is overweight. In the meantime, try with smelly foods such as pilchards and other fish to get the cat to eat something until the cat gets some professional treatment.

How long can a rabbit go without water?

I find this question a little worrying, as an indoor cat should be looked after and fed at least once a day. It is perfectly fine for a cat to go without food for a day, but this is not ideal. Cats will usually only starve if they are trapped accidentally (if outside), sick or injured. It is highly advisable to take the cat to the vet if the cat refuses to eat for more than several days, less than that if the cat is overweight. Ill, hurting, or very fussy cats can refuse to eat for days or even a week at a time, which is a grave danger as this can lead to Feline Hepatic Lipidosis (Fatty Liver Disease), in which the cat's body will start to send fat cells to the liver for fuel, which given enough time untreated, the liver will fail, which is ultimately fatal.

What food can't an African grey parrot eat?

Here is a list of food you should avoid feeding your African Grey Parrot:Avocado. This is highly toxic to birds.Chocolate. This is highly toxic to all animals (humans can eat it because of our complex digestive systems, but too much is still toxic to us as well).Tomato leaves, tomato stems and tomato vines. The tomato itself is fine, but the green parts are toxic.Coffee, coffee beans, tea and caffeinated drinks. Caffeine causes heart attacks in small animals such as birds. It is not natural for any living thing to consume caffeine, including humans.Alcohol. This poisons their blood and kills them as birds lack the ability to digest or break down alcohol.Dry and uncooked beans. Beans contain a toxin called hemaglutin which can poison birds. When cooked, the hemaglutin is eradicated. Make sure any beans you feed your bird are thoroughly cooked. Giving uncooked beans to a bird is like feeding raw chicken to a human.Pits and seeds of any fruit. Pits and seeds contain small amounts of cyanide. There is a reason why humans avoid eating them, but since the amount is small, it doesn't affect us, however since birds are smaller, they will be affected greater than humans are. Fruit is fine, as long as you remove the seeds first.Rhubarb. This is full of oxalic acid, which is a digestive irritant. This can be fatal in the diet of a bird as it can dehydrate them to death.High fat food, salty food and sugary food. These types of food are unnatural, even the human body has difficulty digesting them sometimes. In birds they can cause dehydration, kidney failure, lipomas (tumours), lipemia (fat leaking into the bloodstream) and hepatic lipidosis (liver disease). If a vet finds that a sick pet bird is being fed these foods, you could be arrested by the law enforcement prosecuted for animal cruelty, because this is a painful life for the bird, who may have to be euthanised.Mushrooms. This fungi, although healthy to humans and insects, can cause liver malfunctioning in birdsOnions. These cause vomiting and diarrhoea in birds, which can dehydrate them to death. They can also cause hemolytic anemia in birds, which is a blood condition that causes respiratory arrest.Nutmeg. Believe it or not, nutmeg contains a narcotic drug called myristicin, which is why the lesser-educated humans try smoking it (and only achieve being sent into a coughing fit). Because the amounts are so small, they don't have any affect on humans. But birds, because they are smaller, will become intoxicated, dizzy, nauseous and will vomit excessively, which can lead to death.Peanuts. Despite the name, peanuts are not nuts, they are actually legumes, so they fall under the same category as "dry and uncooked beans", above. Peanuts can contain a fungi called aflatoxin, which causes liver complications in birds. However, specially produced bird peanuts which have been roasted and sterilised can be bought for birds. But make sure they are specifically for birds before buying.Out of date food. Moulds, fungi and some bacteria on out of date foods can cause digestive complications in birds.Human food. Any food that is produced specifically for humans should not be fed to birds. Bread for example, believe it or not, has massively high amounts of salt and sugar. Yes, there is sugar in bread. In recent years, scientists studying birds have found that some of them are dying from consuming bread fed to them by human children.
