Why does the ground need gravel?

The ground needs gravel because without it the ground would rot and die then, the weeds would have to decompose the plants in the ground. FROM: JULES CAIN

How is soil important?

Soil is important because without it there would be no plants and without plants we have no oxygen unless your an alein

What is the importance of the soil?

soil is very important because without it we would not have plants, and it also helps animals survive because many animals eat soil components. Soil contains thousands of insects, bacteria and worms etc. It has minerals and humus in it which feeds some of the bacteria, insects and worms etc. and plants. It is made from eroded rock and decomposed bark, plants, animals, and poo eg. manure, peat. It's important because plants need it to survive, they need somewhere for their roots to anchor in the soil, to grow and get their water from (the ground). we need plants because animals graze on plants, eg. grass, which we eat, eg. cows, and we eat plants ourselves. So you see soil is very important.

Why does roots grow close to the soil surface?

They grow close to the ground because they need a source of nutrients which is given of by the soil (in the ground;). yet some plants don't get all the thing they need to stay alive, like sunlight in rainforest's. The tall canopy blocks the sunlight for all the plants that live on the ground and that is why not alot of plants live on the ground in rainforest's.

What plants and animals live in the ground level of the rainforest?

jaguar, the anteater, lemur
