The leeward side is the downwind side, the sheltered side
The warm air cools as it is blown up the side of the mountain, causing rain. (info from prentice hall science explorer weather and climate book.)
The rain shadow effect happens by a mountain and on the leeward side (west side) has a warm and wet climate. The windward side (east side ) has a cool & dry climate.
A stationery front. A cold front is where cold air gains over warm air. Warm front is where warm air gains over cold air. An Occluded front is where warm air is pushed up and cold aair over takes at lower levels.
air rises at it is pushed up a mountain slope by wind. As it rises it cools. When it reaches its dew point, condensation will occur and clouds will form causing precipitation. When the air passes over the ridge, it will begin to drop and warm and relative humidity will drop. The condensation on the windward side of the mountain will therefore be exposed to more rainfall and thus have more dense vegitation.
The water vapor melts and it goes into the mountain
The dry side of a mountain is called the leeward side. This is the side away from the wind. The dry area is known as a rain shadow.
The leeward side is the downwind side, the sheltered side
The leeward side of a mountain or anything else is warm and dry.
Regions of cold heavy air are called highs. As cool air moves under warm air, the warm air is pushed upward.
The warm dry winds that blow down the side of the mountain (leeward side) are known as Foehn Winds.
it is pushed upward
The warm air cools as it is blown up the side of the mountain, causing rain. (info from prentice hall science explorer weather and climate book.)
The higher you go, the colder it gets. The colder it gets, the less water vapor can remain in the air. That's the reason it rains on the windward side of mountain ranges. Warm, moist air gets pushed up and the rain condenses.
Warm air expands and rises from the base on one side of the mountain. It cools and contracts in the clouds above the mountain and sinks back down but on the desert side of the mountains. This way both sides of the mountain are heated properly.
It is warm ontop of a mountain because the mountains are close to the sun because of how tall they are
