The continental contiguous United States is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east the Pacific Ocean to the west the Gulf of Mexico to the south and Canada to the north. In addition there are several U.S. territories and commonwealths that are part of the contiguous United States including Puerto Rico the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. The U.S. also shares land borders with Mexico and Canada with the longest border shared between the two countries. The U.S.-Mexico border is 1954 miles long and the U.S.-Canada border is 5525 miles long.
