It's typically an "end point user device". I.E. a personal computer, laptop, smart phone, tablet, etc. However, even data center equipment such as servers, NAS, act as hosts from the network point of view. A network connected coffee maker would be a host.
A host is different from network equipment - switches, routers, or hubs or gateways.
