American researchers have made a major breakthrough in the world of nutrition. Scientists have discovered that most vitamins, including the world's best-selling brands, are poorly absorbed and even worse, they prevent both natural and commercial anti-oxidant supplements (vitamins that people take to reduce the risk of serious diseases like cancer) from working -- until now.
Dr. Garry R. Buettner, the head of the Free Radical Research Institute, from the University of Iowa, considered the world's number one authority in the field of free radical research, made the discovery along with researchers from Melaleuca Inc., considered one of the world's leading wellness companies, and a registered pharmaceutical company.
Dr. Buettner and a team of scientists tested the world's leading vitamin supplements. According to the leading wellness company President and CEO Frank VanderSloot, the team of researchers discovered that the process used by almost every vitamin manufacturer prevents anti-oxidants from working in the small intestine -- rendering both the vitamins and the anti-oxidants useless.
VanderSloot went on to tell close to 10,000 customers at the company's annual convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, and tens of thousands more by webcast and teleconference, that the leading wellness company has filed for a patent on a new discovery -- oligofructose complex -- that is now the world's only vitamin process that accomplishes two things: (1) proper mineral absorption, and (2) does not destroy the value of anti-oxidants.
Until the announcement, The leading wellness company had been the only company in the world with a patent on vitamin and mineral absorption. That patent, commonly called fructose compounding, expired recently and the company has replaced it with its new oligofructose complex.
VanderSloot was careful to point out that the company's new vitamin line does not prevent nor cure any disease. However, he emphasized that there are thousands upon thousands of research papers from the around the world that, for decades, have proven the cancer-fighting and disease-fighting nature of anti-oxidants. The challenge, until now, has been to prove or disprove the absorbability and effectiveness of anti-oxidant supplements, a multi-billion dollar industry, and the role traditional vitamins play.

I was reading that some Gluten Intolorents can eat oats so on our monthly shop, I picked up 'Oatibix bites' and 'Oatibix bites with Apple and Rasins'. You can also get a cranberry version but I think I'd find this rather bitter and I am aware of a chocolate and rasin variation but this wasn't on the shelves. You can purchase the standards Oatibix biscuits, like Weetabix biscuits. However, there is actually a difference between the Oatibix biscuits and the bites: The Oatibix bites don't contain: - Malted Barely extract is unsuitable for Gluten intolorents/ celiacs therefore, I thought the Bites would be a safer option. Moreover, I think these are actually healthier because they contain 'Prebiotic Oligofructose' - a natural prebiotic for the immune and digestive system.
the multi vitamin centrum does not really help you absorb antioxidents it prevents you from ever absorbing them and the minerals in the vitamin just sit in your lower intestans causing even more free radical activity among your cells and with no antioxidents to saticfy the free radicals ??????? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figer out whats is hapening are you more likely to have all sorts of health risks from taking centrum and most other vitamin supliments. The answer is unfortianetly yes. If you are trying to find a company that can provide the best antioxident and mineral absorption The company Melaleuca is your answere to your prears and has the best health care available in the US and Canada. If you want their products though you have to be a member and that is 29 dollars to sighn up and then you must switch your house hold products over and that cost's around 65 dollars every month I love their products and you would not believe the scientific break troughs they have came out with Go to youtube.com and type in Oligofructose complex and watch the news cast about them. Many of the benefits of chicory are found in the leaves, which contain flavenoids and tannins. These substances have powerful antioxidant activity. Antioxidants are free-radical scavengers, meaning they can help undo cellular damage and help prevent cancer.Chicory helps:Reduce allergic reactions: A 1999 study confirmed that chicory inhibits mast cell-mediated immediate-type allergic reactions.Lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol level and triglycerides: Another 1999 study found that a compound called fructooligosaccharide inulin decreases triglycerides by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis in your liver and at the same time reducing production of low density lipoproteins LDL).Reduce inflammation and fight cancer: A 2005 study reported that chicory contains fermentable fructans that enhance the growth of bifidobacteria in your intestines, and also provide anti-inflammatory effects. Bifidobacteria regulate your intestinal microbial balance, inhibit pathogens and harmful bacteria, modulate immune responses, inhibit colon cancer, produce vitamins, and convert nutrients into bioactive molecules. Chicory also inhibits pro-inflammatory prostaglandin E(2) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2).Digestion: A 2001 study confirmed that inulin and oligofructose ferment in your colon to produce short-chain fatty acids that are absorbed and metabolized in various parts of your body.Prevent obesity and diabetes: A 2005 study suggested that inulin-type fructans from chicory root may have an important role in managing obesity and diabetes by regulating appetite. At just 7 calories per cup of raw greens, chicory is an excellent low-calorie source of vitamins and minerals. One cup (29 grams) of chicory greens contains 108 percent of the daily value (DV) of vitamin K, and one-third of the DV for vitamin A. The greens also are a good source of vitamin C, folate, and manganese. Chicory greens contain minerals like calcium, copper, and iron.
Prebiotics are parts of food that you can't digest directly. When your partially digested meal arrives in your large intestine, it becomes the food for your probiotic microbes. Mother's milk contains sugars (galacto-oligosaccharides), which feed probiotic bacteria known as Bifidobacterium, which protect babies from gastrointestinal infections. In addition, probiotic bacteria thrive on the parts of plants that you can't digest directly, including oligofructose and inulin. Oligofructose is a fructooligosaccharide, which refers to a short chain of fructose molecules. Inulins are a group of polysaccharides, which means a long chain of sugar molecules. Since these prebiotics are composed of sugars, they are carbohydrates, and since they are indigestible and able to be dissolved in water, they are soluble fibers. Although you can't digest prebiotics, the probiotic bacteria in your colon can metabolize them through fermentation, releasing significant quantities of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane. This process can sometimes cause intestinal gas; however, if you eat these prebiotic soluble fibers regularly, your body grows accustomed to them, and you experience fewer problems with gas.Inulin and oligofructose are naturally present in many plant foods, and may help prevent constipation, promote enzyme activity and improve the pH levels in your colon. In addition, inulin promotes Lactobacillus acidophilus to produce butyrate, a beneficial short-chain fatty acid that helps inhibit inflammation in the intestinal tract. The following list shows foods in decreasing order of their average prebiotic content (values per 100 g):Chicory root, raw: 41.6 g inulin, 22.9 g oligofructoseJerusalem artichoke, raw: 18.0 g inulin, 13.5 g oligofructoseDandelion greens, raw: 13.5 g inulin, 10.8 g oligofructoseGarlic, raw: 12.5 g inulin, 5.0 g oligofructoseLeek, raw: 6.5 g inulin, 5.2 g oligofructoseAsparagus, raw: 2.5 g inulin, 2.5 g oligofructoseWheat bran, raw: 2.5 g inulin, 2.5 g oligofructoseWheat flour, baked: 2.4 g inulin, 2.4 g oligofructoseBanana, raw: 0.5 g inulin, 0.5 oligofructoseBeans, peas, and lentils contain the oligosaccharides, raffinose and stachyose, that feed bifidobacteria, which suppress the activity of putrefactive bacteria, such as Clostridium in the colon. Good sources include:Adzuki beans, raw: 0.2 g raffinose; 3.9 g stachyoseSoybeans, raw: 0.7 g raffinose; 3.2 g stachyoseChickpeas, raw: 0.7 g raffinose; 2.4 g stachyoseLima beans, raw: 0.4 g raffinose; 2.5 g stachyoseBlack-eyed peas, raw: 0.5 g raffinose; 2.4 g stachyosePeas, split, raw: 0.7 g raffinose; 2.1 g stachyoseMung beans, raw: 0.8 g raffinose; 1.4 g stachyoseLentils, raw: 0.3 g raffinose; 1.9 g stachyoseBeta glucans are sugars that are found in the cell walls of baker's yeast, shiitake mushrooms, and cereal grains, like barley, oats, rye, and wheat. They increase the number of probiotic bacteria in the intestines, especially in people over the age of fifty. Beta glucans stimulate the activity of macrophages, which are immune cells that ingest and demolish invading pathogens and stimulate other immune cells to attack. Macrophages also release cytokines, chemicals that enable the immune cells to communicate with one another. In addition, beta glucans stimulate lymphocytes (white blood cells) that bind to tumors or viruses, and release chemicals to destroy it. Beta glucans also help to lower total and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad") cholesterol. Lentinan, a type of beta glucan found in shiitake mushrooms, is believed to reduce tumor activity and lessen the side effects of cancer treatment. Beta glucans also help your body do battle with bacteria resistant to antibiotic treatment and viruses that cause upper respiratory infections. They fight a form of Escherichia coli (ETEC), which cause traveler's diarrhea. They also fight upper respiratory infections from colds and flu.Because only plants contain these probiotic-nourishing carbohydrates, vegans have much higher counts of probiotic bacteria than do meat eaters. Vegans who eat starches, vegetables, and fruits, which contain a wide variety of indigestible sugars that feed and stimulate the growth of probiotic bacteria, require no additional prebiotic supplements to obtain optimal health benefits form their probiotic microbes (natural or enhanced by probiotic supplements).
By reducing the amount of harmful dietary fats cholesterol and increasing yoru fiber intake, you can avoid cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, colon cancer, gallstones, obesity, diverticulosis, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorhoids, diarrhea, and constipation, .Harmful dietary fats include:Saturated fat, which most people get from eating animal-based foods. Saturated fats have all of the carbon atoms in their fatty acid chains bonded to hydrogen atoms. Saturated fat raises total blood cholesterol levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels, which can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.Trans fat, which is rare in nature, but occurs naturally in some animal-based foods. Most trans fats are created in an industrial process called hydrogenation, which adds hydrogen to an unsaturated fat, resulting in a fat that is solid at room temperature. Hydrogenation increases the shelf life of processed foods, so it's good for corporate profits, but it's bad for your health. Trans fats can increase unhealthy LDL cholesterol and lower healthy high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, which are associated with inflammation and can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease. Trans fats may cause comparatively more weight gain than other fats, especially in the abdominal area, the most risky place to store extra fat. Trans fats are plentiful in margarine, spreads and dips, baked goods, crackers, chips, processed foods, and fried foods, so avoid buying those foods. Either stop eating these foods, or make them at home so you know they're healthy. No amount of trans fat is healthy, so eliminate them from your diet.Cholesterol, which is a waxy, fat-like substance. Cholesterol helps build your body's cells and produces certain hormones, among other functions. But your body manufactures enough cholesterol to meet its needs: your need for dietary cholesterol is exactly zero. Plant-based foods contain zero cholesterol. Animal-based foods contain cholesterol, which can increase your unhealthy LDL cholesterol level, along with your risk of heart disease and stroke. There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble. Fiber in cell walls is insoluble in water. Insoluble fiber binds water as it passes through the digestive tract, making stools softer and bulkier. It also stimulates peristalsis-the rhythmic contractions that move food along the digestive tract, preventing constipation and hemmorhoids. Insoluble fiber also prevents irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulosis, a painful inflammation of the diverticula, which are pouches of the intestinal wall. Because fiber accelerates the transit of carcinogens in the gastrointestinal tract, colon cells are exposed for a shorter time to these toxins, and the likelihood of colon cancer is reduced. Insoluble fiber also helps to prevent gallstones in women.Soluble fiber, also called viscous fiber, is found inside plant cells. Soluble fiber increases the viscosity of food, which slows the movement of food through the intestines, preventing diarrhea. Your body uses cholesterol to produce bile acids, some of which are excreted daily. Soluble fiber binds to bile acids, reducing the amount of bile reabsorbed in the intestines, and increasing the amount of bile that is excreted in the feces. To make up for this loss of bile, the liver makes more bile salts, using more cholesterol to make them. In order to obtain the cholesterol necessary to make more bile salts, the liver increases its production of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors. These receptors pull cholesterol out of LDL molecules in the bloodstream. Therefore, the more bile salts the liver makes, the more LDL cholesterol is pulled from the blood. One of the short-chain fatty acids produced by the fermentation of soluble fiber in the large intestines may also inhibit the amount of cholesterol produced by the liver. A high-fiber diet reduces total cholesterol, triglycerides, and Very Low Density Lipoprotein-the most dangerous form of cholesterol. This prevents the buildup of plaque in the arteries and improves cardiovascular health. It also lowers the risk of heart disease. In addition to its beneficial effects on the digestive and cardiovascular systems, soluble fiber helps stabilize blood sugar levels by preventing blood sugar levels from rising rapidly after a meal. If you have insulin resistance, hypoglycemia, or diabetes, the soluble fiber in foods like lentils can help balance blood sugar levels while providing steady, slow-burning energy. In addition, probiotic bacteria thrive on soluble fibers, including oligofructose and inulin. Oligofructose is a fructooligosaccharide, which refers to a short chain of fructose molecules. Inulins are a group of polysaccharides, which means a long chain of sugar molecules. The probiotic bacteria in your colon can metabolize these soluble fibers through fermentation, releasing significant quantities of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane. This process can sometimes cause intestinal gas; however, if you eat these soluble fibers regularly, your body grows accustomed to them, and you experience fewer problems with gas. The probiotic intestinal bacteria can metabolize the soluble fiber into short chain fatty acids (SCFAs). This process not only helps support healthy populations of friendly bacteria in your large intestine, but also provides a direct supply of energy (in the form of SCFAs) to the cells that line your large intestine. With this benefit of this extra SCFA energy supply, your intestinal cells can stay healthier and function at a lower risk of becoming cancerous. Inulin and oligofructose are naturally present in many plant foods, and may help prevent constipation, promote enzyme activity and improve the pH levels in your colon. In addition, inulin promotes Lactobacillus acidophilus to produce butyrate, a beneficial short-chain fatty acid that helps inhibit inflammation in the intestinal tract. Beans, peas, and lentils contain the oligosaccharides, raffinose and stachyose, that feed bifidobacteria, which suppress the activity of putrefactive bacteria, such as Clostridium in the colon.Beta glucans are sugars that are found in the cell walls of baker's yeast, shiitake mushrooms, and cereal grains, like barley, oats, rye, and wheat. They fight a form of Escherichia coli (ETEC), which cause traveler's diarrhea. They also fight upper respiratory infections from colds and flu. Lentinan strengthens the immune system and helps combat illnesses that attack the immune system like AIDS.
Fibre (Aussie spelling) has many beneficial health effects, which are listed below:GI HealthDietary fibre ensures that the gastro-intestinal (GI) system is healthy through a variety of mechanism* Fibre such as cellulose (which is found in fruits, vegetables and cereal bran) increases the weight of faeces, allows the stools to pass through the large intestine (colon) with ease and reduce the time the stools have to travel through the colon - this means less or no constipation * As long as enough water is also taken in, fibre helps to prevent haemorrhoids by making the stools soft and large, enabling easy elimination and reducing pressure in the lower colon, so that the rectal veins are less likely to swell * Eating fibre prevents obstruction of the colon and also the appendix, which makes it less likely to get appendicitis - which is caused by bacterial infection of the appendix * Eating fibre stimulates the whole intestinal tract, which helps the intestinal muscles contract better, maintaining their strength to enable the elimination of stools and preventing diverticulitis - little pouches that bulge out of the colon * Certain fibres stimulate "good" bacterial fermentation in the colon, which aids digestion and prevents illnessHeart Health* Foods high in viscous (thick, sticky or glutinous) fibres such as oat bran, barley and legumes lower blood cholesterol by binding these cholesterols with bile acids and excreting them* Research also suggests that wholegrains may protect against heart disease and stroke in general, due possibly from the fibre and phytochemicals in these foodsDiabetes* Foods high in fibre are an excellent addition to the diet of diabetics, especially viscous fibres, as they trap nutrients and glucose and delay their digestion in the GI tract, which means that glucose levels do not spike so quickly, lessening insulin requirementsColon Cancer* There is a lot of research to suggest that a diet high in fibre, due to its beneficial effect on the gastro-intestinal system, may prevent colon cancer * Fibres seem to prevent cancer by binding with with, diluting and quickly eliminating potential carcinogens from the colon * In addition, some fibres cause bacterial fermentation in the colon, which produces a lower pH level, which may inhibit cancer growth in the colonFibre is found in all fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, legumes and cereals (not the ones you find in packets at the shops).Fibre is found in both soluble and non-soluble forms, all of which are beneficial for health.
