Smog can lead to asthma and other chronic related diseases. Smog is very harmful to people, breathing in harmful toxins and pollutants cant be good for you.
With very few exceptions, there is no longer any difference between cars sold in California vs. the rest of the 49 states as far as smog equipment is concerned.
Take the car to the parts store (Like Advance or Auto Zone). They will test it for free. If the problem is with the emissions system, such as an Oxygen system, then perhaps you should have it replaced before having it tested.
The smog pump is designed to help clean the air the exits the exhaust. It might actually be detrimental to remove it if you have to pass emissions testing.
The easiest method is to remove it, and plug the ports on exhaust manifolds and catalytic converter.
There are several components that make up this system, the initial component is the smog pump. Check the lines coming from the smog pump to make sure they are not cracked and leaking.
The better question would be how much does it cost to PASS...
All engine sesnors. ie TPS, MAP, O2 sensors, EGR, etc.......
the secondary air injection system is the smog pump and valve. the valve is located on the exhaust manifold with 2 hoses leading to the smog pump which is located under the drivers side floor. it is electric.
