Surely the division of J.E.B. Stuart, the Confederate cavalry commander and Union Brigadier Philip Cooke cannot be matched. During the Peninsula campaign of 1862, Stuarts cavalry forces were charged with, among several things, of attacking Federal army supplies in Virginia. Stuart's father-in-law, General Cooke was assigned to chase Stuart and curtail his activities. A remarkable example of divided families.
