The Wayside Inn on the Boston Post Road in Sudbury Massachusetts was a popular stop for travelers in the 1700s. The server in the pub also was responsible for the reception desk. When he would leave the pub for the reception desk patrons would lean over and pour themselves a "free" drink. To prevent this from happening a series of vertical bars were installed and pulled down as a barrier between the patrons and the libations. By word of mouth, this pub was quickly know as the bar room up and down the Boston Post Road. The remnants of the bars are still there.
