Why is overflight permit required?
Customs and Border Protection requires private aircraft arriving from Mexico to land at the first airport along their route of flight upon entering the United States. Airports right on the border like Calexico, Yuma, and Nogales are good examples. With an overflight permit an aircraft arriving from Mexico can continue on to it's destination and clear customs there.

It is really fun because the overflight Entertainment is seriously good. They have screens on the back of seats in economy and fold away touch screens in premium economy. There is a variety of Fairly New movies and music, Radio, TV Programmes, Your fight path ( including where you are on a map, the rest of your route and how long til landing shown) and much more. It is an Awesome journey and kids enjoy it ( they are often given a fun pack and comfort packs can be purchase including eye mask blanket, bag etc, even toddlers. Trust me i should know. I have been on loads of long distance aeroplane journeys from as little as 2 years old and my mum and dad never had a problem with me n ma younger bro.

The United States routinely conducted U-2 reconnaissance overflights of Cuba after Castro took power, and one overflight took pictures that under detailed analysis were determined to be launchers and support equipment for nuclear missiles. The estimated flight time from Cuba to Washington was less than 30 minutes; the time to Florida would've been a lot less. Though the sites were considered to not yet be operational, it was felt that they were within days of being completed, and Kennedy was immediately informed of the threat. The presence of nuclear weapons in Cuba represented a fundamental shift in Soviet doctrine and a major threat to stability in the Western Hemisphere. Not known at the time but disclosed later on after the fall of the Soviet Union was the fact that battlefield Tactical Nukes were also in Cuba at the time. Had Kennedy decided on an invasion, there is no question those would've been used, and I wouldn't be sitting here telling you how it turned out decades later.

President Kennedy, considered an invasion of Cuba after the discovery, similar to the failed Bay of Pigs invasion 18 months earlier.After much discussion, he opted for a "Quarantine," of Cuba, which resulted in a naval blockade around the island. Kennedy demanded that the Soviets remove the missiles, however NikitaKhrushchev, publicly denounced the plan.In order for both parties to show their strength as leaders, a back room deal was had, out of view of the public on each side. The Soviets said they would remove the missiles, if the United States agreed to never invade Cuba again.Unknown to the world for over 25 years, was an even more shocking agreement. To sweeten the deal, and allay the Soviets fears of missiles on their borders, Kennedy agreed to remove America's Jupiter missiles from Turkey and Italy.
What happens when someone flies so fast as to break the sonic sound barrier?
When an aircraft flies through the air, the plane pushes the air out of the way, but the moving air cannot move faster than the "speed of sound" (depending on the temperature and pressure, somewhere around 750 miles per hour). So when an aircraft accelerates to hit the "sound barrier", the air cannot move out of the way fast enough - so the moving air "piles up" in front of the airplane and becomes compressed. This layer of compressed air moves out away from the nose of the airplane as a shock wave, traveling at the speed of sound. When that shock wave reaches any solid object - for example, a pane of glass or your eardrum - it transmits the shock wave to the object. In many cases, the shock wave is powerful enough to break large sheets of glass, sometimes quite violently. You would hear this as a "boom", or if it's close enough, as something like an explosion. A too-close sonic boom can rupture your eardrums, causing (hopefully temporary!) deafness. A couple of years ago, a high-performance Russian jet caused a momentary sonic boom during an overflight of a headquarters building, breaking most of the windows! The Youtube video was quite impressive. A similar problem with an American Air Force jet caused very similar damage over an industrial areal last year, but wasn't caught on video.
