chemistry, pH is a measure of the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are said to be acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic or alkaline. Pure water has a pH very close to 7.

Because water is neutral, and is not an acid, or an alkaline. Acids have a low pH balance and alkalis have a high pH balance. Neutral is in the middle, and as we look at pH on a scale of 1-14, neutral is 7. Therefore, water has a pH of 7.
