I think the major event that is remembered about the atomic bomb happened on Aug. 6, 1945 when a lone American bomber dropped one atomic bomb on the military base city of Hiroshima, Japan. In a flash followed by a funnel shape cloud 180,000 people were killed, wounded, or missing. Some 70,000 were dead or presumed dead. Two days later, on Aug. 8 Stalin enters the war against Japan and on Aug 9 a second atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki and 80,000 more people were killed. Japan sued for peace on Aug. 10, 1945.
