Best Answer

.230kv

Answer

The nominal supply voltage to a residence depends on the national electrical standards in the country in which you live, but no residential single-phase supply exist in the kilovolt range. European countries have a standard nominal voltage of 230 V (which you could express as 0.230 kV, if you really wanted to!) and the US and Canada have a nominal 240/120 V supply voltage.

And the correct symbol for kilovolts is 'kV', not'kv'.

What is single phase dc system?

Single-phase means you have a simple AC supply on two wires, usually a live and neutral, as supplied to the average house throughout the world. Single-phase also includes a split-phase system where you have for example a 240 v supply with a centre-tap neutral giving two separate 120 v supplies. The alternative is three-phase, which can be on three wires or it can include a 4th neutral wire. It is used for transmission of power in bulk because it uses wire efficiently over long distances.

How you differentiate between single phase and three phase transformer?

A single-phase transformer works with a single-phase supply, while a 3-phase transformer is used with a 3-phase supply. A single-phase transformer has 2 wires on the primary and secondary (ignoring taps) while a 3-phase tansformer has 3 or 4 wires on the primary and secondary.

What are the uses of three phase transformer over single phase and their losses?

For a given load, a three-phase system requires around 75% of the volume of copper required by a corresponding single-phase system and, so, is more economical. A three-phase supply also delivers power more or less continuously, whereas a single-phase supply delivers power in pulses. Finally, three-phase motors are self-starting and physically smaller than single-phase machines of the same power rating.

Can you get a 3 phase supply from single phase and how?

No, you cannot get a three phase supply directly from a single phase supply. Nowadays electronic inverter units can be bought that will do the job. For very low power loads the cost of such invertors is quite reasonable but for high power loads they are very expensive. For high-power industrial uses the most economical solution is to have a 3-phase service installed by the local electric power utility company.

How is it possible that a chicken rotisserie that uses 208v 3 phase can have a motor that uses 208v?

Two scenarios are that the motor could be a three phase motor. These three phase motors are manufactured in smaller sizes. The other scenario is that the motor is a 208/220 volt single phase motor. It will operate on 208 volts by taking two legs of the three phase supply for its operation.

What is the advantage of 3 phase system compared to single phase system?

3 phase motors are more efficient than single phase motors. That is why many factories use 3 phase, because they save on their electricity bills. However, it is more expensive to supply the wiring to bring in 3 phase electricity; so it is not used in residences.AnswerThere are three main reasons for generating three-phase electricity. The first reason is that, for a given load, a three-phase supply uses less volume of copper (around 25% less) and is, therefore, more economical than a corresponding single-phase supply. The second reason is that it delivers continuous energy, rather than in a series of 'pulses', which is the case with single phase. The third reason is that a.c. motors are self-starting and more compact than a single-phase motor of similar power rating.Incidentally, three-phase residential supplies are common in some countries, because service conductor size is lower, therefore less expensive, than the corresponding single-phase conductors.

When using a kiln at home is it better to be single or 3-phase for ease of use or cheapest to run?

Choose a kiln which uses a single phase household AC power supply because that is what your home already has. Workshops, factories and big public places like shopping malls, airports, etc. have 3-phase. Very few homes have it.

What is the difference between a single phase compressor and a 3 phase compressor?

One uses single phase AC current (120/240), the other uses 3 phase AC current (most households will not have 3 phase in their home) One uses a 3 phase motor the other a single phase motor. 3 phase is usually used in industrial applications while single phase is used in home or small business apps.
