The official state flag of Texas, called the Lone Star Flag, was adopted in 1845 when Texas became the 28th state of the United States. The colors represent bravery (red), purity (white), and loyalty (blue). The large white star was first used on Texas flags in the 1830's during the battles between Texas and Mexico.

You are misinformed. Every state in the union has a flag of it's own, not just Texas.

Texans will occasionally claim that they are the only part of the US that was at one time a sovereign nation, but that's not true either; opinions differ about California (California claimed to be independent at one time, but it's less than clear that they actually ever were so in fact; they never really formed a government, and their "independence" consisted mainly of a few people saying "Hey Mexico, we're independent of you guys now" for about a month before joining/being claimed by the US), but it's indisputable that the Kingdom of Hawaii truly was an independent country (it's less clear that the later Republic of Hawaii was independent of the US in any meaningful way).

What star is Texas in the US flag?

The star that represents Texas is located in the far right vertical column. It is the star that is 2nd from the top. If you draw a rectangle shape with that particular star being on the left side of the rectangle, you will find that the Texas flag will appear within that rectangle. The Texas flag is always flying when a U.S. flag is flying. The Texas flag just happens to blend in to the U.S. flag until you place a rectangle around it. The Texas flag is the only state flag that is allowed to fly within the U.S. Flag.
