What is that little round vent looking thing above the drivers head in the headliner near drivers door?

Actually, that microphone is located on the left side (closest to driver) of the maplight and rear air control box above the rearview mirror. It is black and actually looks a little out of place despite the fact that it is factory. I believe the one in question is a heat sensor for the driver's side climate control individual temp selection. I could be wrong on the last part, but I know the mic for onstar from at least 2004 and up is located on the maplight box.
