They are made by different manufacturers, obviously. one would have to consult the relevant Technical manual. Both made Jeeps during the War. Willys continued to produce them post-war and also evolved the Jeepster and other spin offs . Ford returned to domestic civil auto production, though may have made M38a1"s for the Armed Forces. The Land Rover, while a Jeep type vehicle, is a British derivative by the Rover motor company- and NOT strictly speaking a Jeep. There are rumors that a Rolls-Royce engined Land Rover was custom made for Queen Elizabeth II, who was a wartime Jeep Jockey.

There is no difference. They are both made to military specifications and the parts are interchangeable.

Who invented jeep?

The Jeep was invented in 1941 for the U.S. Military by The American Bantam car company. The final production was awarded to Willys as the military felt Bantam was too small a company to produce the necessary numbers needed. Ford also built the Jeep for the military using the Willys plans. Bantam, which was the inventor, produced only trailers for the Army and never made the Jeep. Willys called their Jeep the Model MB and Ford called theirs the Model GPW. Jeep was never a name the military used. It was only a nickname in the beginning.

Why was the jeep made?

The military needed a light-weight rugged reconnaissance vehicle for the war. American Bantam produced the first 'jeep' prototypes (Bantam No1 and BRC40). However the torque specs did not fall into the military's requirement. Willys overland produced a prototype that met all of the requirements. Willys Overland had limited resources and had to share the contract with the Ford Motor company. Ford Jeeps were designated GPW's G- for Government P- for 80inch wheelbase and W- for using the Willys Overland Design. Willys continued building civilian jeeps (as well as military jeeps) after WWII. The first civilian model was the CJ-2A
