Answer The Chamber of the British House of Commons is a rectangular room with the Speaker's Chair at one end. Along one side, to the Speaker's right are the Government Benches and opposite them on the Speaker's left are the opposition benches. In front of each set of benches a red line is drawn on the floor, and members are not permitted to cross the red line on their side. The red lines are two sword lengths apart, preventing physical, personal attacks from one side on the other.

The Lower House of the Parliament of Canada is styled the House of Commons. The House of Commons does not directly select which parties form government or opposition. The Governor General of Canada appoints the person who is best able to command the support of a majority of members of the House of Commons to become the prime minister and to form a Government. The largest party, other than the Government, becomes Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition. Though the Governor General's choice for prime minister is normally clear, the viceroy/vicereine has a degree of personal discretion when no party has received a clear majority of seats.
Currently, the Liberal Party of Canada forms Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition for both the Senate, and the House of Commons. Some senators sit as Progressive Conservatives. In the House of Commons, the Bloc Québécois and the New Democratic Party of Canada are the other opposition parties.
