Changed based on post by Narayana.ma in Discuss:What is the basic function of plotter in a computerized embroidery pattern making machine with plotter and how does it differ from a machine that doesn't have a plotter? This question may include the description of an obsolete model embroidery machine. In earlier machines the data was fed to the machine with the help of a huge device known as a "plotter". Such plotters were basically graph sheet like gadgets on which the drawing would be reproduced so that the x,y co-ordinates of the points of the design could be determined and fed to the machine. Today this is replaced by new technology called digital plotting wherein the designs are converted into machine readable format by using some digitizing software which determines the x,y co-ordinates of the points comprised in the design and records them. This recorded data is then transferred to a floppy disc or cd-rom and can then be fed into the machine.

How do I embroidery leather vest?

The first step for embroidery on leather is to soften the leather as much as possible. There are many products of the market that you can work into the leather to soften it. Then you need to make sure you have the proper leather sewing needles, which are sharper and stronger than cloth embroidery needles. You will need to use more plys of thread than you would for cloth; at least 10 plys of DMC embroidery thread, or you can choose a stronger three ply Persian wool. From there the procedure is the same as cloth embroidery. Choose the pattern you want and lightly draw it on the fabric with a white fabric marker, and begin.

What is the difference between the current sewing machine and the old sewing machine?

A serger (overlock) sewing machine uses up to four threads and has a special trimming blade. It is designed for one main job: it sews, trims and overcasts the seam at the same time. Its function is specialized, but it can really speed up sewing and gives the finished item a professional look. A serger is a great machine for sewing stretch fabrics. A home sewing machine is designed to do a wider variety of tasks. It will generally have more stitches, plus presser feet and attachments to sew zippers, buttonholes, do machine quilting, etc. There is usually an overlock stitch on a home sewing machine, but you can't sew the seam, overlock and trim all in one pass. Lots of sewers have one (or more!) of each.

Can you get embroidery string at Target?

No. Target doesn't carry craft supplies. Micheal's carries "floss" (this is what it is called) and also has patterns. I do embroidery and craft stores are the only places today where you will find floss. There are also online stores that carry it as well. If you buy a kit the floss comes with the pattern.
