Inbreeding depression is the reduced fitness of a population caused by inbreeding.
Inbreeding reduces genetic diversity, meaning populations are less genetically adaptable - and greatly increases the chances of genetic diseases and disorders. Inbreeding is most commonly associated with reduced reproductive and viability traits.
