HTC is definitely a very nice cellphone company and they do manufacture some of the worlds leading smart-phone's that are sold from cellular providers such as Sprint and Verizon.
However, the I-phone is still ranked the number one smart-phone in the world as of 2011. While Motorola's line of android smart-phone's comes in second.
HTC started out pairing they're processors with android smart-phone's and that is why a lot of the HTC smart-phone's have the android market. The primary pairs you will see is either HTC/Android or HTC/Google or HTC/Google/Android. Google started out as HTC's main provider and they also helped the company go worldwide with they're fast processors.
The quality of HTC is still debated. However, HTC smart-phone's do hold the most text messages out of any smart-phone. You can hold up to 1,000 messages per person. However, HTC's processors are known for catching viruses very easily and stalling quite frequently, just like the android but more frequently.
If you are looking to spend a couple hundred dollars on a smart-phone I would definitely go with I-phone.
