Caladiums, like onions are a bulb so considered a cool weather plant. As long as the ground temperature is thawed and workable they will do fine. The will do best if planted in the fall and allowed to winter over but planting in the early springtime as soon as the ground thaws, the will do well also. The same thing goes for any other bulbed flower, onions and garlic.
