Do you know how many different opinions you will get on this. My advice is to go drive the 4 brands, Ford, Chevy (GMC), Dodge, & Toyota. See which one you like and which one lights your fire. One of those trucks will be the one that you just love. My personnel choice would be Ford, but that is just me. Ford is the # 1 seller for a reason. But they are all good choices. There are no bad trucks today. They are all good.
A 1 ton truck will have the largest hauling capacity, but the half-ton truck will haul a lot and is easier on gas. The ton and half- ton refer to how much you can haul including passengers. The Dodge Ram has both the 1 ton and half-ton truck which would easily do the job.

No, you can not find a half-ton, V6 diesel. There are none currently on the market, at least none that are factory made. 2014 will be the first production year a half-ton pick-up truck will be factory fitted with a V6 diesel engine. Chrysler will introduce the new Dodge Ram 1500 with a half-ton, V6 diesel engine in the third quarter of 2013.
No. A S10 series truck is considered a quarter ton truck.
No, in general it's considered a half ton truck. I believe the F-350 is a 1 ton?
The terms 'half-ton truck', '3/4 tone truck', 1 ton truck all refer to the total weight of a load that they can carry. The curb weight of the truck itself varies, depending on whether it is a compact, mid-size, or full-size.
