If you're asking about an off-road 4x4, Land Rovers have got very good reviews for years. You can either get one of the old ones, renovate it a bit, and stick some off-road tyres on it, or if you have money get one of the new ones, and travel in luxury both on and off road. If you off-road a lot, just buy a spare set of wheels and put off-road tyres on them. It's the tyres that make most of the difference on similar cars. And if you're serious, you obviously need a locking differential.
