I assume any alternate answer acknowledges that by 'Weightlifting supplement', the asker is referring to a weight gain supplement. I also assume that by 'good calories' any alternate answer is referring to a calorie source that has appropriate nutrient content (high calorie, appropriate balance of macronutrients) as opposed to say eating a bag of refined sugar. Something like...milk? :) Hell of a lot cheaper than your $60 tub of "super-amazing-weight-gain-factor-X-powder" that's nothing but milk and egg protein mixed with maltodextrin anyway! Dietary supplements only can give you a edge. The best supplements other than food to consume for a weightlifter are whey protein, creatine, glutamine, amino acids, and a good multivitamin mixture." Food, by nature of its name, is food. It is not used as a supplement to itself. The asker is assumed to be eating food anyway, so the question becomes what can he/she should then consume that would help the goal of increasing muscular bodyweight. As anyone who is familiar with drinking large quantities of milk for such a purpose will tell you, it is much easier to consume 5500-7000 calories a day when 2400 is in liquid form. This is the reason that weightlifters and bodybuilders supplement with "weight gain" powders, though weighing up the cost and benefits milk is a much better choice.
