You want the dash right by the "E" stamped on the cam gear lined up with the notch on the valve cover(only pay attention to E marks because the other marks don't pertain to this engine!). After you have those two points lined up, there is a dot on one of the teeth on the crank gear than needs to be lined up with the timing mark at 12 o'clock on the engine front cover. Ignition timing is 8 degrees before TDC for the 16v motor. BOY, you need a Haynes manual!! They are worth there weight in gold!!
cam timing marks are on the timing gears inside the timing case cover the crank timing gears are located on the harmonic balance (big pulley wheel at bottom of engine on front of crank)
the cam should be at 6:00 and the crank at 12:00
The timing marks are for referance on where the cam and crank are to be positioned. The Lanos has marks on each of the timing gears. There is a notch to line up on the bottom (crank/ little cut out in the pan) and up top, the intake at 9 and exhaust at 3 O clock (lined up with the valvue cover). Not a great explaination but hopefully this helps. Actualy I told you wrong on the cam marks, they should line up with each other (pointing to each other along the lines of the cam bolts)
the timing marks are on the cam and crank gears in the timing case.
If you are getting a code about cam/crank misalignment, you most likely have a problem with the timing belt. There is either a part failure or it is miss installed.Niether the cam or crank sensors have any adjustments. If you are getting a code about cam/crank misalignment, you most likely have a problem with the timing belt. Generally, for most single cam engines, there is a dot or mark on the cam sprocket and a similar mark on the crank sprocket. Point them at each other. the timing marks on the crank and cam sprockets must be lined up with marks on the timing chain in an overhead cam engine
ignition timing or cam timing. see my profile for link. answers both.
ita on crank and cam tony ayoub
No cam sensor. Just a crank sensor on the bottom of the timing cover
The timing marks are on the timing cover for the crank pulley, and on the cyl head for the cam ...
You don't! The computer, crank and cam sensors control timing.
